Are you unknowingly eating one of the most potent human carcinogens? Plant food eaters beware. It’s estimated that 25% of our global food supply is contaminated with mycotoxins. We may sneeze because of mold or mycotoxins, but they are nothing to sneeze at!

Aflatoxins are a type of mycotoxin produced by certain molds. Aflatoxins are quite prevalent in our food supply and are defined as poisonous carcinogens produced by certain molds in soil, decaying plants, hay, and grains.  They are regularly found in cottonseed, millet, peanuts, rice, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, tree nuts, wheat, corn (this includes anything made with corn, such as chips, corn oil, corn syrup, and cereals), cassava, dried fruits, chili peppers, and a variety of spices. Aflatoxins are produced by the Aspergillus fungus.

As with any toxin, over time mycotoxins can accumulate in our tissues and organs, where they wreak havoc on our function.

 HOW TO LIMIT EXPOSURE:

1.      Limit consuming the main food sources: tree nuts, wheat, corn, peanuts, rice, cassava, millet, and sunflower seeds.

2.      Inspect and avoid eating shriveled, discolored, or visibly moldy nuts or grains. (Source)

3.      Grow your own food when possible.

4.      Support your cells’ natural ability to detox these little buggers.

5.      If you think mycotoxins may be affecting you and you aren’t familiar with safe detoxing methods, connect with someone who has the expertise in this area. Connect.
