ELECTRONICS IMPACT on OUR BRAIN

According to the Pew Research Center 97% of Americans own a cell phone.  Of those 85% are smartphones.  (2021 Statistics)  The cells in our brain and our heart are regulated by bioelectrical signaling, so it logical to expect that electronics will have a physiological impact on our bodies.  What are some of the current studies showing about how our brains are being affected by radiofrequency radiation (RF) or commonly referred to as EMF (electromagnetic frequency) that is emitted by cell phones and other electronic devices?  Read on. You might be surprised.

The Biointiative Working Group, made up of more than a dozen experts from around the world, has completed a review of 3,800 studies on electromagnetic frequency.  That’s a lot of studies!!  In their report released in 2012, their review of these numerous studies on EMF or RF found evidence of the following: DNA damage, calcium metabolism disruption, blood brain barrier leakage, and reduced production of melatonin.  They recommend, “Children with existing neurological problems that include cognitive, learning, attention, memory, or behavioral problems should as much as possible be provided with wired (not wireless) learning, living, and sleeping environments.”  (Herbert and Sage 2012, section 20)  Do you any of you know schools that are providing children with wired electronics?

The blood brain barrier is meant to protect our brain from harmful toxins entering our precious brains. When this protective barrier is breached all kinds of havoc can happen. With repeated exposure to RF, the harmful affects continue and can multiply. Steps need to be taken to protect our heads from further harm, safely remove toxins that have gotten into our brain space, and restore more optimal brain function.

The fact that there is evidence that melatonin production is reduced is also cause for response. We need adequate melatonin to get restful and restorative sleep. During restorative sleep our brain is are busy cleaning and repairing tissue. If there isn’t enough melatonin this process is inhibited. Our brain suffers the consequences. We may feel sluggish, unable to focus, or develop memory issues or neurological disorders.

Most people are surprised when I suggest they shut their WIFI off at night to help them sleep.  Given the impact electromagnetic frequencies have on melatonin production, this simple action can have a very positive affect on your sleep.  In my opinion, much greater precautions should be considered. But shutting off WIFI when it’s not being used is a good start.

The belief that electronics are safe as long as the tissues of the body are not being heated by ionizing radiation, is outdated.  The Bioinitiative Working Group points out that based on decades of research, “It has been established beyond any reasonable doubt that bioeffects and some adverse health effects occur at far lower level of RF (radiofrequency radiation) and exposure where no heating occurs at all.” (Safety Limits)  There is widespread concern that our current standards need to be updated.  There is also a growing concern that more steps need to be taken to protect human beings – especially children and developing young adults. Four hundred scientists and doctors have asked for a moratorium on the rollout of the upcoming latest fifth generation of radiation being heavily marketed to us as something wonderful.

Unlike the United States, other countries are taking steps to protect their children from the negative effects of the various forms of harmful radiation produced in our electronic world.  One of those countries is France. In 2015, France banned WIFI in nursery schools and requires other measures be taken for the safety of children and the general public.  (France)

Back in 2011, The WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) drew this conclusion: RF (radio frequency radiation) of frequencies between 30kHz and 300 GHz are possibly carcinogenic to humans. More recent studies on radiation have shown RF to be carcinogenic to humans.  This would place RF in the Group 1 Carcinogen category, along with tobacco smoke and asbestos.  I think you can see just how serious this is. We can no longer ignore the evidence. RF may be invisible, but it is certainly not harmless.

For now, I feel this is enough information.  Especially, if this is your first exposure to the very harmful effects of radiation that is so prevalent in our highly electronic world today.

In addition to shutting off your WIFI when it’s not in use, here are some other simple tips:

  1. Do not hold the phone near your head. Instead use the speaker phone when talking.

  2. Charge your phone at night in a room outside of your bedroom. Do not keep your phone by your head.

  3. Choose to use wired electronics whenever possible.

  4. Consider hardwiring your home or office.

  5. Look into effective diodes or harmonizing stickers to decrease the negative impact of the harmful radiation emitted and received by your phone and electronic devices.

  6. Refrain from giving small children electronic devices.

  7. Wear blue light blocking glasses for later afternoon and evening screen time.

  8. Avoid using electronics at least 1-2 hours before bed.

  9. Keep learning about the impact of RF or electromagnetic frequency which is a form of radiation.
