The Benefits of the NervExpress Heart Rate Variability in My Practice
One important reason I do a HRV assessment for my clients is to help us see the overall function of their autonomic nervous system. This gives a picture of how their sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are working together. The sympathetic nervous system acts like our gas pedal or the fight-flight response. The parasympathetic system serves as our brake pedal or our rest-digest response. We feel our best, and our body functions best when these two systems are working in harmony with one another. Whenever there is organ distress or emotional stress it can show with the heart rate variability assessment. Some call heart rate variability the gold standard for measuring emotional-physical wellness.
As a person’s health and wellness improves generally speaking so does their heart rate variability. Doing another HRV assessment a few months into doing a personalized improvement program, is a great tool that can show how much your state or overall condition has changed — hopefully for the better.
The NervExpress provides an overall Fitness Score. This score can provide insight into the number of organ systems that are experiencing some degree of stress. It also provides a measure of the person’s level of ability to adapt to stress. Again, as one’s health improves so does the Fitness Score. Occasionally, while doing an improvement program, the Fitness Score may actually decline for a bit as the person’s body is working on various challenges it was not able to have the energy to address before. This generally is a short-term drop, followed by an improved HRV score when retested a few months later.
As a practitioner, the NervExpress is a valuable tool to alert me of there is nervous system confusion occurring. It can also indicate that a person’s system is “stuck” and not adapting to being in various positions or performing certain tasks. This information guides my work with clients as we dive in to identify why they are struggling to get well.
