You have perhaps heard from health sources that inflammation is the underlying cause of many brain disorders and health issues. I have found that this is not the case. We have to look deeper. We need to find out what is driving inflammation. Chronic inflammation is not the cause; it is yet another symptom or sign that the body is struggling to rid itself of irritants or toxicants. Hormone imbalance is not a cause either. It is a sign or result of toxins impairing the body’s ability to maintain proper hormone balance. But that’s a topic for another day.
Inflammatory markers are a tool that can indicate that the body has signs of physiological stress and imbalance. Interestingly, some of the same inflammatory markers used in lab tests are used to detect brain inflammation and to detect gastrointestinal inflammation.
Interleuken-6 (IL-6), a cytokine inflammatory marker, may be used as a biomarker for the clinical diagnosis of brain injury. This same biomarker, which is found through blood work, is elevated with digestive disorders, such as irritable bowel disorders and leaky gut.
Along with lab markers, there are physical signs that can alert us to brain inflammation.
Some of the signs are:
Headaches
Stiff or achy neck
Mental confusion or brain fog
Emotional instability: anxiety, depression, agitation
Fever
Sensitivity to light
Fatigue
Seizures
It’s very important to take any signs or symptoms seriously. They could be early warning signs of deeper health issues, and if these issues are left unaddressed, they may develop into more serious conditions, like Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, or other brain disorders and diseases. In addition, it is important for folks to know that brain inflammation is generally present in children with autism spectrum disorders.
Thankfully, we can help calm the brain and support the body to rid itself of inflammation through dietary intake and targeted supplementation. This is one of the key ways to successfully help the brain of a child who is struggling with autism symptoms heal and perform its best. It is also one of the keys to helping people who struggle with brain fog, fatigue, cognitive decline, and more serious brain issues, like Parkinson’s or dementia.
While nutrition and targeted supplementation will not quickly fix the problem of inflammation or any diagnosis, they can address the underlying causes of inflammation. When specific nutrients are received by the body consistently over time, inflammation can decrease, and a person can begin the process of long-term healing. If the needed nutrients to calm and deal with the inflammation are not received, it is likely that the brain will experience further progressive degeneration. That’s how serious this is.
Now is when it is best to not be like most people. Most people wait until they have a more serious diagnosis to do something. I believe that healing can still happen in more advanced cases. I have seen it happen. But it is much better to heed the early warning signs and be proactive in addressing them before they manifest in more debilitating ways. If you want to keep your marbles, you need to take care of them now.
Nutrition that can be helpful to address inflammation includes key fatty acids, like grass-fed butter, pure organic olive oil, and organic unrefined coconut oil. Avoiding processed foods, canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, and vegetable oil is also key to lowering the body’s inflammatory response.
In addition to the nutrition, a person may need supplements that support the body’s ability to detox. Taking the right liver, kidney, digestive, or mitochondrial support supplements can really aid the body’s ability to heal and repair from the inflammatory damage.
Work with an experienced practitioner that can guide you. Your health is too important to just follow the pack and your own Google searches.
Blessings as you get the help you need. Stick with it, and don’t be discouraged by slow progress. The body will heal gradually, but it takes time. Even when you don’t notice a change in your symptoms, your body is busy using the nutrients to heal and repair some of your trillions of cells.
If you do find yourself feeling discouraged, remind yourself that you are nourishing your body with what it needs, and in time you will feel the benefits. There will likely be ups and downs in the journey to greater wellness. Buckle up and prepare for an adventure. Getting toxins into the body is easy, but getting them out is more challenging. Praise God, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. With the right support, your body can show the toxins the door.
It is an exercise in the fruit of the Spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Forbearance. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-control.
My advice: be patient. Results will come. Be kind and gentle with yourself and those on your team. Pray for self-control to withstand the many temptations and cravings. Hang in there. When it comes to issues regarding dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s, it’s likely that they have been developing for many years. It could take several months to see significant signs of improvement.
Ask for forgiveness when you mess up. Trust in Him, and remain faithful to Him. Pray for strength and discernment. Then when it comes to making decisions about your health, do what honors Him and how He created our bodies. God gave the body the ability to balance and heal itself. It just needs the right tools to do it.
The fruit of the Spirit will calm your mind, body, and soul, creating the best environment in which you can heal. When you have greater health, you will find yourself more joyfully serving Him and others with what you have learned.
With God all things are possible.
Keep on keepin’ on.
In grateful service,
-Anita
